The City of Albion has initiated a capital campaign for the Eli Porter Memorial Project to be located in Fuller Park.

The Eli Porter Memorial Project, a 7,000 square foot inclusive playground with poured rubber surfacing, is to be located north of the Albion Family Aquatic Center and directly next to the trail.

The project budget $428,337, less a matching-fund discount from the equipment vendor - BCI Burke - of $57,338, is $370,999.

The Porter Family has committed $30,000 in Memorial Funds to support this community project.  This initial memorial gift combined with $175,000 in Sales Tax Funds committed by the City, brings the capital campaign goal to $165,999.

The goal is to have funds raised this Winter, so that construction may begin in Spring/Summer 2024. There is a minimum 10 week lead time once the fund-raising is achieved and the order is finalized.

JoAnn Porter and City Administrator Andrew Devine are leading the fund-raising effort and exploring several grant opportunities.  An application for $25,000 in grant funds has been submitted to the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation for consideration, and a pre-application request has been sent to the Peter Kiewit Foundation.  Several other grants will be pursued over the course of the campaign.

Community members are encouraged to support the fundraising by contacting Andrew or JoAnn, or by participating the Boone County Big Give Event - Nov. 27-Dec 2, 2023!
